Its crafted from some sort of bone (likely ox or camel) with gold fittings for wear, and features a sliding lid that opens to reveal three tiny dice with black and red number dots. Given the three dice it was probably intended as a portable way to play the game bunco a parlour game popular in 19th Century England, and later exported to the US
