The Austrian commander, the Prince of Schwarzenberg, bringing news of the victory to the assembled allied monarchs. Part of the War of the Sixth Coalition, Leipzig was the most decisive defeat inflicted on Napoleon before his ultimate demise at Waterloo. With over 500,000 troops involved it was the largest battle fought on European soil before World War I.
